Title:
Transitions #1 Media: Acrylic on canvas Dimensions: 48"x40" Finish Date: March, 2005 Commentary: In a discussion I had with Katherine Chiang Liu, she told me that I could handle colour ok but I needed to "find my mark". This spawned a series in which I began to explore explicit marks and shapes. I had briefly looked at this problem in Figure/Ground #1, and this piece reflects a similar structural approach to the construction of elements. Several months later, a light turned on and I understood mark in a more general sense, that of distinct personal expression or style. A determination of whether or not that is what Katherine meant will have to wait until we talk again. |
